IMAGING
A single photograph taken from a camera is subject to geometric distortion. This prevents measurements such as distance and area to be accurately taken from one photograph.
An orthophoto is a composite photograph created from multiple aerial photographs resulting in a single, seamless, geometrically corrected image.
Once processed, ortho-mosaic photographs can be used to measure distances and areas. If done properly, these measurements can be accurate within centimeters. These geometrically accurate photographs can be used as a starting block in the creation of construction base plans or, when collected over time, can be overlayed one another to accurately track worksite development.
